Recent research has shown that spouses sometimes remain in abusive situations because leaving the house would require leaving a pet behind. Florida law now addresses this issue and permits a Judge as part of a domestic violence temporary or final injunction to award exclusive care, possession and control of an animal to one spouse and may prohibit one spouse from having contact with an animal and to prohibit transferring or concealing or harming the animal.
